    Very interesting, but I'd rather use a dynamic eq, because if your instrument (e.g. the guitar) moves to a higher pitch maybe you don't want to cut those frequencies so hard.

    CLA also puts a bit of verb on the delay.

    @1:10:36 shouldnt it be 2.5/1 at 5ms ms and 1.75/1 at 2.5ms?

    Great vid. A tiny bit of sidechain on top of whichever pre delay suits the rev. 3ms, 50ms, or 150ms, seem to be sweetspots, and 3ms for things you want set back or for subtle reverb on backing/double vocals you want set back on top of having space(from having a reverb). Main seems to end up anywhere from 30ms-150ms depending on what space is best occupied by the vocal's ambience. Sometimes balancing the snare rev first and getting the voc rev to fit back to front without overlapping any making the depth field feel cloudy can be killer.

    i like the last one..like the idea of side chaining the vocal to compressing the reverb.

    Wouldn't you have achieved the effect under point 3 with a dynamic eq or multiband compressor?

    I really must muse over this. 10 hour course? Why? I remember when some Limiters. Only had an input and output control. Where do you get 10 hours for that? You plug something in. You turn up the control. You take a listen. You cut that to tape. You commit. Before you get committed. By not plugging in a Limiter. To begin with. Because it needed some dynamic range Limiting. And we don't need to mince words here. Compression is limiting. Limiting is compression. It's just where you put it. In what frame and volumetric, you put it.. That does not require 10 hours of anything. You plug it in. You turn it up. That's it. Now we can get into the, nuances of whether you want Optical, Peak or, RMS sensing. As they all do the same thing but they all sound slightly different. And the way in which it does it. Do you want an optical gizmo? How about a voltage controlled amplifier? What about a Field Effect Transistor programmable volume control? Which one is best? Well it's all and nothing at all. You don't use, nothing at all. You use something. To sound like, nothing at all. It's strange, I know. But that's the way it goes. Audios like Voodoo. Like Black Magic. While it is mildly mathematical. But you see. We do not listen to mathematics. We listen to music and speech, singing and sound. Numbers make no sound. Mathematical formulas, make no sound. Test equipment is not alive. Test equipment cannot hear anything. It has no brain. It has no blood. It is not warm. It can hear nothing. And evaluate, nothing. It can't even hold a conversation. But you can stand on it. And it will tell you how much you weigh. In the morning. Before you take a crap. And then boast about losing 2 pounds. Yeah the hard way. I think Homo sapiens are pretty stupid. Especially many with college degrees. RemyRAD

    #6 is why I can't understand the lyrics of pop songs today. Over zealous de-essing can take out all the consonants because God forbid we get a little sizzle in our ears. It may be helpful to a point but too much makes the lyrics unintelligible.

    These lessons are absolute blessings thank you. I have a question about Mix Buss EQing - You emphasized the importance of making it step 3, right after getting your level balance. Would you say this is common school of thought or just your preferred way? The results were great, i'm just skeptical of making mix buss moves before addressing tonal issues like masking in the mix. Appreciate all the work you've put in.

    Great course! But a tip for people trying to "hear the compression" is to LUFS normalize your prints. Trying to hear a subtle shift in a volume envelope when the overall volume is different, and perceived loudness is different, does not work well.
